3 Stars of Destiny
Indinera Falls, the creator of the Laxius Power Saga and the popular RPG – Laxius Force has come up with his latest offering in the form of this exciting old-fashioned RPG. 3 Stars of Destiny serves as a prequel to the Laxius Power series and takes you on a fun filled adventure with Random and his party consisting of some very interesting creatures and individuals. It is published by Aldorlea games, which has earlier published the relatively popular Aveyond series.
Although 3 Stars is meant to serve as a prequel to the Laxius Series, newcomers won’t be left out and can derive as much fun and enjoyment from playing the game, as those familiar with the Laxius Power universe.
Story
The story is about Random and his team of adventurers prior to the Laxius Power games. It’s filled with exciting twist and turns and is really interesting to follow. It’s fairly light-hearted and does not try to be something out of the box. But, it still manages to keep you interested and sets the mood for the game.
Ozur, the Orc God has lost most of his powers. His sorcerer has told him that in the mortal world lies the key for regaining his lost glory. 3 youngsters in the form of a swordsman who wants to be a hero, named Random, a chirpy and playful elf Sarah and a nerdy but intelligent sorceress named Luciana have immense energy tucked inside their mortal bodies. While alone, they are just mere mortals but if bought together by destiny, they can even outshine the power of the Gods! Ozur must find a way to bring these 3 Stars together and take them to the Outer World where he can strike!
Follow the adventures of these young adventurers and find out what destiny holds for them! Along the way, complete a variety of interesting quests, discover relics and artifacts, uncover secrets, meet and recruit charismatic characters like a relic-hunter, a powerful minotaur, a fire elemental and heck… even a talking chameleon!, interact with people who will assign you with dangerous quests, offer you rewards and a host of other services, and a lot more…
Gameplay
3 Stars of Destiny sticks with the traditional format of old-school RPGs which was seen in all the other titles created by the developer as well. You encounter monsters randomly most of the time and battles are a turn based affair. Although, at the start of your journey, you are asked which level of difficulty you prefer playing at and the rate of random encounters with your enemies you would like to have, 3 Stars mostly follows the tried and tested format of old-school RPGs which revolves around leveling up, completing quests, procuring powerful weapons and equipment, killing monsters and interacting with people and exploring the world around you. I recommend novices to choose the easy difficulty option along with the low encounter rate to enjoy the game to the fullest. Rest assured, the game is as interesting and challenging even at the lowest difficulty and encounter settings as it is at higher ones and therefore you won’t miss any of the action, whichever level you prefer playing at!
What sets 3 Stars of Destiny apart from other titles of this genre is the fact that it is very well-paced and its gameworld is created with utmost care. The characters, storyline and the environment all gel effortlessly inside the gameworld, making the game extremely fun to play. 3 Stars also overshadows its competitors with the amount of playtime it offers. It will take you well over 30 hours to fully explore the vast beautiful world that 3 Stars of Destiny puts before you. The game’s replayability quotient is also impressive and you will find enough reasons to continue playing it once you are done with the main quest, thanks to the numerous side-quests and secrets it has on offer. You will never tire of playing this game.
Visuals and Audio
3 Stars of Destiny is a beautifully created game. The effort that the developer took for creating every map with utmost care and finesse can be seen while playing it. Everything from the artwork to character sprites looks amazing. Even the monsters look strangely beautiful. Indinera has tried to be as original as possible in creating the objects and environment present inside the gameworld. Given the limited resources of RPGmaker, he has done an excellent job. Most of the artwork, soundtracks, and character models are original and only a few have been lifted from the stock art of RPGmaker.
The music and the sound effects are played out brilliantly in this game. It really complements its gameplay. Most of the compositions are original and they normally are lengthy pieces with a tempo which just matches the game’s pace. The scores are mostly orchestral, which is a good thing considering that you will spend hours exploring dungeons and indulge in a lot of epic battles in the process and the orchestral theme prevents the music from sounding repetitive. Overall, the audio quality is excellent in this game.
Conclusion
3 Stars of Destiny is by far the most well made game to have come out of the Aldorlea stables. It manages to produce a masterpiece which gets just about everything right. The game is not very complex to play, the flow is very smooth, the story is simple and the gameplay which revolves mostly around exploration is spot on! All these simple yet brilliantly executed aspects make this game an experience which every RPG game lover will cherish. If you are an old-school gamer who is on the lookout of a beautiful looking RPG from the 16-Bit era, you can’t give this one a miss.
