After installing GoW: Betrayal on my Nokia N81 handset, I was really thinking if it was necessary to make this transition for such an epic game into our mobile handsets? Will it be able to live upto the level of sheer awesomeness and brutality that God of War showed in its console counterpart? Or will it become a disgrace and just another one of those “crap” mobile remakes of popular console games?

But, the moment I started the game, these thoughts were quickly overcome by a sense of joy and surprise. For starters, this game is not a remake of God of War and is a completely new game known as Betrayal which fills in a minor story gap between the first and the second GoW games. And this is by no means a “crap” game. It is actually as much violent and awesome as any GoW game! Kratos screams authority over your mobile screens and Sony has done a remarkable job in bringing him in all his glory into our mobile handsets.

The game starts of with you leading your Spartan army into conquest after conquest and Zeus sending in Argos to stop this madness. What follows is arguably the best mobile gaming experience anyone can ever have!

Kratos takes on legions of diabolical and angelic baddies in some of the most fluid and graphically gory action sequences you can ever experience within the confines of the mobile platform. You can rip enemies apart, grab them by the neck and twist it till it detaches from their mortal bodies or disembowel them as and how you please. To assist you in wrecking such Havoc are Kratos favorite Blades of Athena and Blade of Artemis, you also have Medusa’s Head as a weapon which can freeze enemies for a short while known as Medusa’s Gaze and Army of Hades which unleashes hungry undead souls which feasts upon any protesting enemies and brings their souls to you – The God of War! Sounds exciting? Then read on and you will know what real excitement means!

Each of the weapons can be upgraded by collecting enough red souls from fallen enemies and all of them have 5 levels of upgrades, making them more devastating with each level gained. Just like the console versions, Kratos is no sissy here as well. He can pull off deliciously brutal combos with his blades, ripping and tearing anything and everything in his way. He can also perform aerial combos by jumping and attacking which are awesome to watch but the best part comes when a circle appears over your foe’s head if Kratos manages to dish out enough torture to him

When the circle appears, you need to press the attack button and follow a sequence of key combinations which if carried out successfully results in Kratos going into a “you choose to defy the God of War, now prepare to lose your frigging entrails” mode wherein he executes an finishing move beheading the poor soul/beast and plucking out his eyes or tearing his entire body into pieces. Fun!

Now, while this sound almost as exciting as playing the actual GoW game but the one question your minds must be perturbed with is whether the mobile version manages to portray such epic scenes in such a small screen? The answer dear gamer is a capital YES! As this is the best looking mobile game I have ever played. The combat sequences are excellent to watch with attention to detail given to every movement and action animation of Kratos. The enemies also move very fluidly and the monsters look amazing while getting obliterated by the Ghost of Sparta! And every single sequence, be it Kratos falling to the ground with a thud or swimming in the water (yes, you can swim!) or performing combos to climbing ladders is extremely well executed. This game is worthy of being the only GoW game if it was developed in the 16 bit era!
