25.Okami

“A picture speaks a thousand words.”

Clover studios is gone. But its beautiful game featuring a god in the form of a wolf was unique not just in its mesmerizing art style, but also in its unique gameplay feature of using brushstrokes to add different elements to the environment and offensive movies.

Okami is as close to art as videogames came in this decade and that quality alone warrants it with a place in our list.

24.World of Warcraft

“LEEEROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOY JEEEENKINS!”

Having World of Warcraft on our list was a given. It created too big an impact on gaming to be left out. There are many who still believe the World of Warcraft is not the epitome of MMO gaming, but people…more than 11 million subscribers cant possible be wrong. World of Warcraft introduced gamers to a whole new world and took online gaming to the next level. It also gave user interaction and bonding over a videogame a new definition and was way ahead of its time in vision and execution. It’s no surprise that people have spent more time playing this game than living their actual life (which is a scary thought btw!). At first, we were disappointed that we were not getting Warcraft 4, but a few days into World of Warcraft had us hooked on. The only reason that some of us have stopped playing WOW is the drug-like addiction. All these qualities along with the revolution and surge of online MMORPGs it bought along with itself makes World of Warcraft a worthy inclusion on our list. And of course…how could a game that gave us LEEROY JENKINS not be awesome?

23.The Sims

“The People Simulator”

Although The Sims can be touted as an oddity in our list and there are many haters of the series wordlwide, you just can’t ignore the fact that the idea of living a virtual life is one to be applauded at. And while the series has some amount of haters, the sheer number of followers easily outnumber them and the game sold more than 100 million copies worldwide(till 2009), making it the highest selling PC game in history. People started living a second life of sorts thanks to this game. You could do anything you wanted to in this game. From taking your dog for a walk to cleaning your kitchen…you name it, they had it. The Sims introduced a new genre of gaming known as life simulation to gamers in a way no other game before it could do – one where you can do things meant to be done in reality in a virtual scenario and for bringing along such a revolution, it deserves a mention in our list.

22.Guitar Hero

“11 IS louder than 10. TURN IT UP!”

The sad and hard truth is that not all of us can be Rockstars. That just how the balance in the world is maintained. You can try picking up that broomstick and pretend to be wailing a face melting solo straight out of Freebird, but you would just be fooling yourselves. That’s where Guitar hero comes into the picture. We have used the word ‘revolution’ many times in this feature, but Guitar Hero is the game which truly does justice to that word. Music games have been around for quite a while, but none have gained the fame or prominence that Guitar Hero garnered in such a small time period. While the idea is very simple, of having to hit the right notes as they slide down a ‘fret board,’ it’s the masterful execution by Harmonix and Red Octane that set this game apart. Long night-outs, heated band arguments, aching fingers and complaining neighbors…sigh…good times indeed!

21.Diablo 2

“Not even death can save you from me.”

When it comes to Action RPGs, Diablo II’s name comes to one’s mind instantaneously . And why not? It perfected the point and click exploration formula like never before. Exploring those dark gloomy dungeons and clicking away to glory for hours had never been so much fun before or after Diablo II. Apart from that, the game also offered you the chance of going co-op adding that extra bit of fun to the experience and not to mention the thriving online community the game has thanks to its outstanding online mode. Diablo II became a cult classic in no time and numerous clones were made trying to replicate this masterpiece. But none succeeded in matching the ARPG experience offered by Diablo II which makes it a truly deserving candidate in our list.
