Age of Empires Online to arrive this Autumn

Age of Empires Online, the re-imagination of the classic RTS series will be going live this Autumn, a source has told Eurogamer.

The free to play title is being developed by Gas Powered Games in collaboration with Robot Entertainment.  While the core game is free, players have the option to purchase additional content/packs to further expand their arsenal.

“The industry in general is still in somewhat of a transition state,” said Microsoft Game Studios producer Danan Davis.

“There are some players that still want to go down to the store and buy a retail product.”

Additional content will be available in the form of civilisations, boosters and empire extras. Prices of these packs will vary between $5 and $20. Read more about it over here. Joining the existing collection, is the “pro premium civilization” upgrade, which starts your civilization at Level 20.

The game will release as a download title as well as a retail starter kit, which lets players begin the game with a premium upgraded civlization and unique bonus content. Pricing has yet to be revealed. We’ll update you as soon as Microsoft reveals a concrete release date.
