Batman: Arkham City comes with VIP pass to unlock Catwoman as playable character

New copies of Batman: Arkham City will ship with an online pass which you’ll need to redeem in order to unlock Catwoman as a playable character in the game.

A video which contains the first fifteen minutes from the title revealed this news. The code is a one-time use only, and second-hand buyers will require to buy the VIP pass (around 600 mb) in order to unlock her.

“Catwoman is a unique character with her own story, moves, and weapons. Unlock Catwoman by redeeming the 1st purchaser included in the game case or by visiting Xbox Live Marketplace,” says the game’s title screen.

The pass unlocks four playable story missions that features Catwoman as a playable character, and one challenge mode level known as Riddler’s Revenge which you can play as her.

Catwoman still features in the game even if you don’t use the code, but only as part of the game’s storyline which accounts to roughly ten percent of the game (you can  play as her in these portions), but her separate playable missions remains locked.

The video from where the screen has been taken contains the first 15 minutes from the game. We’ve seen it, but we’ve played the game as well. We advise anyone who is a fan of the series to AVOID watching it at all cost, and we wouldn’t for the life of us, post it over here. Be careful.

Warner’s also issued a statement to Eurogamer regarding this, and has since confirmed the news as well as stating that second hand users will need to pay £7.99/ 800 Microsoft Points in order to buy the online pass.

“Further to your story, players who purchase previously owned copies of Batman: Arkham City can access the playable Catwoman content for £7.99/ 800 Microsoft Points.

“Playing as Catwoman is not required to complete the game.”

Although we can get why games like Battlefield 3 ships with an online pass, as they require huge server and backend costs to run, but this seems a bit uncalled for on Warner’s part, especially since Batman: Arkham City is a single-player based title. What do you think? Let us know below.
