Cataclysm annihilates PC sales records, sells 3.3 mil in 1 day

In the first 24 hours alone, the latest expansion to WoW has sold a whopping 3.3 million, making it the fastest selling PC game of all time.

Sure, Black Ops sold around 5.6 million copies, but that was on all three platforms combined. Never has a game which has released exclusively for one platform witnessed such successful sales.

In the past few years, only Blizzard’s games have managed to break the PC sales records, with every succeeding game achieving new milestones. The last WoW expansion pack, Wrath of the Litch King sold 2.8 million copies which made it the top grosser  and was followed by Starcraft II which sold 1.8 million and doesnt include the entire population of Korea. An official figure has yet to be issued but we reckon around 3 million to be sold in Korea alone. If true, then Starcraft II would have even surpassed MW2 and this is just on one platform.

Officially, Cataclysm now wears the crown and we don’t expect any non Blizzard game to pose a threat to its dominance. It just proves that despite the declining number of exclusives, the PC can offer a unique experience which cannot be replicated on the consoles. If you’ve got a problem with it, don’t just take it up with me, take it up with the 13 million players who sets foot in Azeroth almost every single week.
