Company of Heroes: Online gets canned

The project has yet to see the light of day but THQ has already pulled the plug on Company of Heroes: Online. The statement reads:-

“After an exciting period of operating and testing, we will be closing Open Beta on March 31, 2011 to evaluate the next steps for the Company of Heroes series,”

In other words, the project is dead.

Company of Heroes is one of the best RTS titles to release over the past decade and an online only iteration held a lot of promise, especially aided by the fact that it would have been free to play.

Beta players who have already invested in the game’s micro transaction model hoping that their money would be carried over into the final game will unfortunately be at the receiving end of the boot.

Yet, we still hold on hope for a Company of Heroes 2.
