Epic teases a “Next-Generation Graphics” showing for GDC
There is no denying that Unreal Engine 3 is the go to engine for most developers this gen. But it’s been speculated by most of the industry that the engine has reached its saturation point. Epic Games themselves have openly admitted that they are working on the Unreal Engine 4 for the next generation of consoles, but the developers promises that they can still push the boundaries of the Unreal Engine 3 and a full demonstration of the engine’s true capabilities awaits us at GDC.
Mark Rein, Vice President of Epic games had this to say on twitter:
“Visit the theater in our GDC booth to see Epic’s proposal of what the next generation will be, as powered by Unreal Engine 3″
Gears of War Lead Designer Cliff Bleszinski confirmed the news on twitter as well.
“To reiterate – our GDC booth will show Epic’s proposal of what the next generation will be.â€
“Graphics aren’t good enough yet, dammit.â€
Gears of War 3, despite being based on the same Unreal Engine 3 which powered Gears 2, is looking like a quantum leap ahead. Nobody knows the Unreal Engine better, than the people who built so we can assure you that they ain’t just pulling our legs.
GDC will open its gates on February 28th and we eagerly wait in anticipation to see what Epic has in store for us and more importantly, the official unveilment of Battlefield 3. Stay tuned for more updates.
