Inafune teases August announcement of exclusive new PS3 title
Keiji Inafune, former head of Capcom’s research and development team and global head of production, announced last week that players should expect to see an exclusive role-playing title for the PlayStation 3 sometime this August. Inafune also stated that an online free-to-play social game would come as early as this month.
Inafune’s career with Capcom, which began in 1987 and lasted twenty-three years, was a prolific one. Though he is best known for his design of famous blue-bomber Mega Man, he was also involved with other highly successful franchises such as Resident Evil, Street Fighter, Dead Rising, and Onimusha.
Inafune claimed to have been looking for a way to start fresh when he first announced that he was leaving Capcom. However, in an interview with Bloomberg, Inafune discusses disputes between creators and management and the industry may see a swell in social gaming as a result.
“In this industry, it’s often the creators who have the eye for potential hits but they’re not the ones deciding what gets published.”
This is not the first time that Inafune has publicly displayed displeasure about how the industry operates as he took a dig at Capcom last month, accusing them of not approving any new IPs during a period of time.
