Mario 3DS is Galaxy meets Super Mario 64 says Nintendo

The upcoming Super Mario title for the newly launched 3DS will blend the finest elements of Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario 64, according to Shigeru Miyamoto.
In an interview with Edge, Miyamoto stated that the game was “completely original”, and the game would in fact release this year.
“It’s a combination of Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario on N64,” he explained.
“It won’t convey the message if I talk to you today, but if you play it at E3 that will give you more understanding of what I’m talking about.”
He also added that the handheld’s 3D capabilities will add to the gameplay experience, as players would fare better at judging distances between platforms. And of course, the fan favorite Tanooki suit will be making a return, as teased by the logo at GDC.
“It’s what you think it is, You probably know what’s going to happen using that character.”
The game is being developed by the same team that brought us the genre redefining Super Mario Galaxy and its highly refined sequel. Could this be the game that will make us forget about the less that stellar launch lineup of the 3DS? We certainly think so.
