Mercenaries 3D Save System Will Not Be Seen Again

The recently implemented un-deletable save data feature which gamers saw in Mercenaries 3D will not be there to stay, clarified Capcom.

TheĀ  new type of save data function does not let you delete your saved games saves to game cartridge itself. This was not well received by gamers all around the world as this would have made the game worthless for those who normally buy used games. Also, some of the retailers who deal in used video games have refused to trade-in the game.

Capcom had said earlier that this feature had nothing to do with any type of DRM or to discourage those who fulfill their gaming needs by buying used games. And, in an interview on Capcom Unity, it has argued that the game follows the arcade-based gameplay and things ought to remain there once unlocked.

“It’s fair to say there was never quite the malicious intent the conspiracy theorists out there would have you believe. It’s also fair to say in light of the controversy it’s generated I don’t think you’re going to see something like this happening again. There was no intention of lessening the experience of the game.

Essentially, RE Mercs was treated like an arcade fighting game. You unlock characters, levels, etc and they just stay unlocked as they would in an arcade machine. There was no hidden motive to prevent buying used copies. It’s not some secret form of DRM. It’s simply the way we designed the save system to work with the arcade type of gameplay.”

Well, it’ll be satisfying to never see this kind of implementation in any future games. Even in an arcade game, we can reset the game when we want to.

Mercenaries 3D has been released and is available for 3DS.
