Microsoft: Gears, Halo and Forza massive, outsell PS3 first-party titles

During an interview with VG247, Microsoft UK boss Stephen McGill claimed that their first-party titles like Gears of War, Halo and Forza Motorsports are massive and all of them outsell everything its competitors Sony produces as exclusives to the PS3.

He said that sometimes people tend to ignore that fact, and said that they’ll continue to evolve these franchises, along with trying to innovate and bring in new IPs in the future.

But people sometimes kind of gloss over that. Gears of War is massive. Forza is massive. Halo is massive. These franchises outsell PlayStation’s first-party lineup. People love these games. We will continue to innovate and evolve these franchises, and we will continue to bring new IP to the platform too. So it’s about choice, and it’s about doing what people want us to do and taking some risks and bringing some new stuff to the market too.

He wasn’t far from the truth, since Microsoft’s announced two Halo titles during their E3 press conference – Halo: Anniversary  which is a remake of the classic Xbox title Halo, and a brand new Halo title – Halo 4 which kicks off a new trilogy. The other two games mentioned by him – Gears of War 3 and Forza 4 also got ample coverage during the event.

However, it remains to be seen if Microsoft can introduce new IPs which can be as successful as these three established franchises.
