Mysterious Sony reveal isn’t a new PS Home, new PSN inbound?

A few days ago, Sony VP of Awesomeness posted a teaser trailer which contained live-action footage of two battle-worn soldiers entering a pub and featured short appearances from many of the publisher’s successful franchises which included the likes of God of War, Final Fantasy XIII, Littlebigplanet and more.
The first assumption that most people made was that it was a teaser for a new PlayStation Home update, however a recent blog post by Sony has confirmed that it isn’t going to be that as they’ve already announced that a new PS Home update will be chalked out this thursday while the teaser contained the date October 5 as the day when it’ll be revealed what it’s going to be.
This Thursday, September 29th, we will release the latest update to the PlayStation Home client. PlayStation Home version 1.55 delivers a brand new start-up experience, updates to the Wardrobe and Furniture browser, and general enhancements that will result in improved stability and smoother operation. Here’s a look at what’s coming as part of PlayStation Home 1.55:
This suggests that it’ll be an entirely new service for the PS3 or a revamped look for something existing. The proper guess will be that it’s going to be a new update for the PlayStation Network considering so many popular characters were hinted at in the trailer. Let’s take a look at what was hinted at in the brief teaser.
0:13 – Helghast (Killzone) eyes in the background
0:16 – trademark siren from the Resistance series
0:22 Sweet Tooth’s theme and truck (Twisted Metal),
0:25 – “Vivat Ludus Long” = Latin for “Long Live Play”,
0:26 MK II (from Metal Gear Solid 4) as well as a PS logo above the booth, ![]()
0:30 – poster on the wall with various PS1 classics,
0:35 – Prize bubble (from LittleBigPlanet),
0:39 – Weapons from Killzone, Ratchet and Clank, Final Fantasy XIII and other franchises,
0:51 Kratos shadow in the background
With all these characters and trademark sounds hinted at from different Sony franchises, we can come to the conclusion that it surely isn’t going to be a new title but something more significant. A new Playstation Network or the announcement of a major new feature seems more likely, especially since Sony’s been going all out promoting their new tagline – Love Live Play. With the PS Vita gearing to release soon, it can even be something related to that and the PS3.
This is surely going to be something which enables gamers to connect more freely, and considering that the two soldiers are seen entering a room without their weapons, it seems it’s going to be a new PSN update or the announcement of a entirely new look PSN.
However one thing is for sure, whatever it is, you’ll be surprised as Sony seems to be preparing to pull out an ace up its sleeves. Do let us know what you think below and you can see the teaser once again below. Watch out for the reveal – 10.5.2011.
