New Company of Heroes title confirmed to be in development

It’s no secret that THQ hasn’t been on top of matters financially in recent times. With sales figures failing to meet expectations, the publisher was left with no choice but to drop several of its studios and even terminate the Red Faction franchise. But it looks like the publisher intends to get back in the race by focusing on several of its core franchises, rather than the casual and kids market which the entire industry has shifting focus on as of late.
Despite being released along with a flood of AAA releases, Saint’s Row: The Third managed to garner an impressive sales figure with over 3.8 million copies shipping worldwide up to this date.
“The success of Saints Row: The Third is an example of what our revised strategy and focus can achieve. We have now shipped 3.8 million units globally and are currently expecting to ship between five and six million units lifetime on this title. Additionally, our robust digital content offerings for this game have resulted in the highest digital revenue of any console title in our history,” said Brian Farrell, President and CEO.
It’s internal studios are already hard at work on some of it’s most revered franchises including UFC Undisputed 3 and Darksiders II, as well as unannounced sequels to Company of Heroes, inSANE, Saints Row, Warhammer 40,000, and the new title from Patrice Désilets and his team.
THQ had already acknowledged the existence of Dawn of War III earlier last year, and a sequel to Saints Row was pretty much a given after the immense success of the third installment. But we couldn’t be happier to see Company of Heroes among the pile. The first Company of Heroes was a landmark title for the genre and fans have been demanding a true sequel ever since. Company of Heroes Online never materialized into what it set out to be, and our prayers were left unanswered. Although we all knew that we would see a new Company of Heroes some day or the other, it’s great to finally hear an official confirmation. Our fingers are crossed for an E3 debut.
