PS Vita Memory cards priced exorbitantly

Sony’s finally come out in the open about how much it’s going to cost you for buying the memory cards for the otherwise modestly priced handheld – PS Vita.

Anyone’s who’s following news about the handheld must be aware that in order to cut down on production costs, Sony left out in-built memory from their new portable console, forcing people to depend on external memory cards if they want to store games and other things on the device. As with every hardware giant, Sony’s come up with their own line-up of memory cards which you can use to ensure smooth functionality, however one look at their MRP and you’ll have to think again.

The 4GB model is 2,200yen (approximately $29), 8GB 3,200yen ($42), 16GB 5,500yen ($72), and a 32GB style will set you back 9,500yen ($124). These are some really steep prices for memory cards and anyone wanting not to risk getting their files from getting corrupted by using third-party memory cards (which are bound to come out as soon as the device releases) which aren’t certified to be used with the device are in for a shock.

The PS Vita is scheduled to release on December 17 in Japan. The 3G version of the handheld will cost 29,980 yen (approximately $390) an the Wi-Fi version will cost around 24,980 yen (approximately $325). No details about plans of its western release date.

Do let us know your thoughts about the pricing of these memory cards and if you think they’re fair.
