Report: Wii successor will not featue a hard drive

As we draw closer to the big E3 unveiling of Nintendo’s next home console, more and more rumors have started to surface. We’ve already heard about the hardware specs, but today, Kotaku is reporting that the console will not feature an internal HDD and will instead utilize 8 GB of internal flash memory.

While that number seems more than sufficient enough to store downloaded retro games, it’s hardly the size of a dual layer DVD, suggesting that the console will not require you to install games. Downloading Movies from services such as Netflix also seems implausible. Apparently, the console will make use of a brand new disc format which can store up to 25 GB of Data on a single disc. Considering that Nintendo has never resorted to standard disc formats, it’s highly likely that this is legit.

However, this is just a rumor and it’s better if we just hold our horses till Nintendo spills the beans at E3.
