Silent Hill Downpour announced in GI, first details revealed

This month’s issue of’ Game Informer has revealed that Konami’s next Silent Hill game is titled Silent Hill: Downpour and is being developed by Czech based developer, Vatra Games.

The main character of the game  will be escaped convict Murphy Pendleton as he finds himself lost in the town of Silent Hill.

An interesting new feature would be the introduction of sidequests that would keep changing on each playthrough depending on your style of play.

The info detailed in the mag suggests that the game’s environment won’t be only restricted to the town itself and players can explore a vast set of locations which will infact be connected through a subway system which players can use to travel between locations.

The mag also played a demo of the game which they state as being set in what seemed like a very Alan Wake-ish area. Downpour will also be placing an emphasis on stealth and hit and run tactics, encouraging the players to avoid combat where possible and indulging in tactics such as injuring the monsters and making a run for it.

Combat however is not entirely avoidable and you’ll have weapons at your disposal which break over time and the game won’t feature any weapon inventory. There will also be various puzzles (with difficulty options) in the game which will test your wits in order to progress and boss fights which will see you handle a host of quicktime events in order to overcome.

Interestingly, according to the mag, the devs of the game state that  “thematically, psychologically and story-wise”, water will be playing a big part in Downpour (with a name like that, what else were you expecting?) and the game will feature illusions such as a river flowing on a ceiling and much more (interesting).

The players will finally get to explore the southeastern portion of the town this time around and you can rule out spending most of your time in old schools and hospitals in this game.

The game will be releasing in 2011 for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC but we have no date yet.

Gamersmint will keep you updated as more on this emerges.

Thanks, GAF

Now this sounds interesting. I know many people dind’t like Homecoming, but give the them a break, it was the first time the american company had make a SH game. The next one should be better and by reading this, I think it goes the right way.

And they are releasing for PC too! This just gets better and better, as long as they remember the major consoles, everyone’s happy :)
