Sony confirms PSN attacked by Hackers
The Playstation Network has been down for more than 48 hours now and Sony’s finally given a proper update about the reason for this outage.
In a recent update posted over at the PS Blog, Sony’s confirmed that they’ve taken the service offline after an suspected external intrusion by hackers.
“An external intrusion on our system has affected our PlayStation Network and Qriocity services,” he said.
“In order to conduct a thorough investigation and to verify the smooth and secure operation of our network services going forward, we turned off PlayStation Network & Qriocity services on the evening of Wednesday, April 20th.
“Providing quality entertainment services to our customers and partners is our utmost priority. We are doing all we can to resolve this situation quickly, and we once again thank you for your patience.
“We will continue to update you promptly as we have additional information to share.”
This means, the PSN network was hacked into and in order to protect their customers, Sony’s temporarily taken it offline.
Although, they’re working towards restoring the service worldwide, it’s still unclear as to how much longer it would take to restore service.
PSN has more than 72 million accounts worldwide and this outage is causing extreme annoyance to PS3 gamers worldwide.
