Sony: Only a few people canceled their PSN accounts due to outage

The Playstation Network outage had left many PS3 gamers straned, with practically no access to the online features of the console for weeks at a stretch. The damage caused as a result of it would take a lot of doing to recover from, but did users also contemplate cancelling their PSN accounts altogether? Only a “very small percentage” if you take Sony president Kazuo Hirai’s word for it.

Hirai confirmed that only a small number of people have called into the customer support centers to request a cancellation of their PSN accounts in the wake of the recent attack on the network by hackers.

Speaking with the Wall Street Journal, Kazau said, although the numbers are small but it’s still to early “to draw conclusions based on those findings.”

Sony boss, Howard Stringer echoed Hirai’s sentiment and also insisted that they didn’t think for once, that their securtiy was penetrable.

“Our case, unfortunately, is so large and the scale of the PlayStation Network so big that it’s forced a lot of attention to be paid,” he said. “In the long run, that’ll be good for everybody else but it hasn’t been a wonderful experience for Sony.

“We had no reason to believe that our security was not good and still no reason to believe it because we have plenty of people looking at it. We’ve learned that we just have to keep improving our security. “We have to earn back the trust and loyalty we may have lost in this circumstance. That’s our goal and that’s one we have to reach.”

Stringer also warned that no system is hack proof and there’s literally no way to make PSN 100 percent secure but they’ll do everything in their hands to prevent a repeat of these events in the future.

A few services including online functionalities have been restored for PSN, across the world, save Japan. The PS Store is still inaccessible but should be resuming service later this week. Sony’s also offered with users some welcome back programmes as a gesture of thanks .
