Sony PS3 hardware sales sees major slump in Q1 2011

Sony has published its reports for the quarter ending June 30 and the results aren’t pretty.
The report shows that PS3 sales have encountered a significant decrease for the period from 2.4 million in FY 2010 to a mere 1.8 million in the current FY.
The combined hardware sales figures have now totaled global PlayStation 3 sales at 51.8 million. Sony saw an increase in PS3 software sales however, putting the total up to 26.1 million units from 24.8 million last year.
On a more positive note, PSP sales show an increase in numbers, at 1.8 million units sold in Q1 2011 compared to 1.2 million in Q1 2010. Software sales were in the decline however, with only 6.6 million units sold compared to 9.2 million last year.
The PlayStation 2 sales slumped even further down this year, with only 1.4 million units sold in the quarter compared to 1.6 million last year. Softwares sales didn’t fare any better, with sales down to 3.4 million from last year to a mere 1.5 million in 2011.
For comparison’s sake – the Xbox 360 has sold 55 million units globally till date.
