Sony Stops Production of the PSP GO

Sony has confirmed that recent rumors of the PSPgo getting canned are in fact true. The news was revealed to Japanese website AV Watch by Sony.
Production will cease so that Sony can concentrate all their resources on the development of the NGP (Next Gen Portable) which is due for release this fall in Japan and at the beginning of 2012 in the rest of the world. Remaining stocks will be sold till they’re depleted.
When asked about the PSP-3000, Sony said: ”It will continue to be sold, and we will keep focusing our attention on it from here on out.” The 3000 is still selling well, despite the release of the 3DS. Judging by its planned releases, Sony will continue to support the handheld even after the NGP hits shelves.
However, this was a wise move by Sony as the Go wasn’t received well critically and commercially and was only holding Sony back.
The PSP GO didn’t manage to do upto the company’s expectations in Japan or rest of the world. This marks an unsuccessful venture’s end. Its failure was mostly due to the fact that Sony had decided to do away completely with a UMD drive and all its content was in digital format.
