Street Fighter X Tekken announced

Comic Con just got a nuke of its own recently, Capcom announced today that a brand new game, titled Street Fighter X Tekken, is in development for Xbox360 and Playstation 3. The announcement was made by the Producer of Street Fighter X Tekken, Yoshinori Ono, and Tekken series Director, Katsuhiro Harada. It is the first time where fighters from both Capcom’s Street Fighter series and Namco’s Tekken series are going to appear together! Both series are critically acclaimed and are the current top sellers in the fighting games genre. There is also Tekken X Street Fighter announcement by Namco, which is going to render the Street Fighter characters in the likes of Tekken Universe.

Retaining the same technology, Art Style graphics and non-photorealistic rendering that powered Street Fighter IV and Super Street Fighter IV, characters from Tekken series such as Kazuya Mishima and Nina Williams are going to be reimagined in this style in Street Fighter X Tekken. Fully realised 3D character models are going to battle in highly detailed 2D environments, a reminiscent of Street Fighter IV.

Street Fighter X Tekken, in addition to Versus and Training mode, is also going to include Tag Team combat where players select two fighters to deliver knockout assist attacks and special combos. The gameplay itself is going to feature several new enhancements to make the fighting experience more “in-depth and enjoyable”.

Commenting on the origins of this project Yoshinori Ono said: “This is history we’re making. Two fighting games that have rivalled each other are finally standing on the same stage. This isn’t just a showdown between Tekken and Street Fighter, but a decisive battle for Capcom and Namco Bandai Games. So I’m going to give it my all.”

Boy, do we love where this is heading or what! I mean, you get to lock heads against characters from both the SF and Tekken universes in the SAME game! What can be more awesome than that? We sure are excited about this project. No tentative release date or other info has yet been disclosed except “for a while”. Lots of screenshots have been released by Capcom, check them out
