The Only Way To Play Age of Empires II [PIC]

Age of Empires II is undoubtedly one of the best RTS games ever made. Every RTS fan has spent hours upon hours playing it. However, at some point of time or the other, we’ve all wished that our puny little monitor could cover more ground and we could view more area of  the world map to plan more efficiently.

Alas, that was not to be, since a single monitor could only cover as much space. However, reader Martin has found out a workaround for this.

He’s connected not one but two monitors to play the game.  Yes, that’s a resolution of 3840*1080. Amazing, we need more guys like him in this world.

Helpful Redditor, zab00mafoo has also compiled a tutorial for any lost soul who would want to do the same but doesn’t know how to go about it.

Here’s your guide to awesomeness:

  1. Hook up your two big-ass monitors.
  2. Configure your graphics card to merge the two displays into one wide one. (I was only able to do this with my nVidia card, but if your ATI cards support EyeFinity, that should work too.)
  3. Patch your game using this awesome utility. The tool spits out a special EXE that runs the game in your current resolution.
  4. Play Age of Empires II like a boss.
  5. You can use this tool even if you only have one monitor. So you play in 1690×1020, 1920×1080, 1368×768, etc.

If only we would have done the same years ago when the game actually released. : |
