THQ hints at imminent Nintendo home console announcement

We’ve all heard plenty rumors about a new Nintendo home console in the making and now,  THQ boss Brian Farrell has added fuel to the fire.

Speaking at a financial conference yesterday, Brian admitted said that he wasn’t expecting news of a new home console ‘anytime soon from either Microsoft or Sony’, but had something interesting to say about Nintendo.

“It used to be that investors would play the console cycles,” he explained. “A new console would mean a period of hyper growth in the industry.”

“Now that game costs have gone up so much, these cycles have gotten longer, so it’s harder to understand how to play the console cycle. We don’t expect new hardware any time soon from either Microsoft or Sony. It’s difficult on Nintendo – we’ll let them announce their new hardware.”

“What we like about now is we’ve put most of our capital behind the 360 and PS3 for the next couple of years and that’s where we think the action’s going to be.”

Back in December, Nintendo US chief Reggie Fils-Aime said that we wont se a Wii 2 till the Wii ships 45 million in the US alone. But at the current rate of Wii sales, that shouldn’t be too far away.

Though he could just be speculating like the every single on of us, its more likely that we will see a Wii 2 before a PS4 or a Xbox 720. If it does exist, do Developer’s already posses a development kit? Only time will tell, E3 waits around the corner. Fingers crossed.
