THQ: Metro 2034 to “compete with the Call of Dutys”

When Metro 2033 was released back in 2010, the game received mediocre critical and commercial reception, but the gamers who did pick up a copy would argue to the death that it was one of the best games to release over the  last year. Fans can rejoice as THQ is confident  that the sequel, Metro 2034,  has the ability to compete with “the Call of Dutys”

In an interview with IGN PC, Danny Bilson, THQ’s VP of core games promised that Metro 2034 will receive a much more aggressive marketing and that we can expect a  “better polished” game overall.

“The sequel’s even more advanced in terms of the technology,” he said. “The sequel’s going to get a lot more support than the first one got both from product development at THQ and marketing.

“There were certain things in [Metro 2033], even though it looked sensational, some of the shooting mechanics need to be better polished to compete with the Call of Dutys. They are this time. For marketing it’ll get a much more respectful push.”

Bilson added that the franchise’s Russian roots will not be compromised to appeal more to the western audience.

“I’m a big supporter of that team in Kiev,” he said. “It’s an original Russian franchise. We don’t want to mess with it and Americanise it. It’s got its own point of view. Even though our guys in Agoura did a lot of the work on the fiction, this time it’s still that vision.

“You’re going to see a more polished game, you’re going to see some crazy technology. We green-lit it before the other one shipped and you’re going to see some of it at E3.”

They sure aren’t pulling our legs when they said “Crazy Technology”. Metro 2033 is undeniably the most taxing game on the PC in the market as it offers unprecedented DorectX 11 and tessellation features.

Metro 2034 is being developed by Kiev-based 4A Games for unknown platforms, but you can definitely expect a lead PC version. Too bad we have to wait till E3 to get a first glimpse at the game.
