Top 6 Games You Must Buy Before 2012

2011 was and still is referred to as the ‘year of gaming’ due to the sheer volume of games releasing this year. While a majority of such blockbuster games have flopped in delivering any aspect of memorable gameplay, let alone fun, there’s still several forthcoming (and some recent launches) titles which are sure to be a massive hit. So, here’s the top six games that a gamer must purchase before the game releases in 2012 arrives.

Dark Souls

Demon’s Souls was known for its notorious difficulty factor which is one of the contributing factors of the game doing so well. Dark Souls, PlayStation 3 exclusive Demon’s Souls spiritual successor, launched recently in North America and Europe allowing owners of both the PS3, as well as the Xbox 360 to experience the game. While its gameplay may have been touched down a bit on the difficulty side, gamers will still have a great time with the unforgivable experience and with some even saying the title’s scope is larger than Skyrim’s, this is one title you do not want to miss; especially if you thrive on a challenge.

Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is referred to one of the greatest PlayStation 3 games ever to have graced Sony’s platform. So, as one can imagine, the pressure is enormous for its successor to deliver the same quality and possibly top it. With a stellar story-line paired with enthralling gameplay, as well as the multiplayer component – which Naughty Dog hopes it’ll take on the big boys – Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception is preparing to showcase what the PlayStation 3 is capable of.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

The Elder Scrolls franchise has been a major contributing factor of the success of the role-playing game genre. The next title in the franchise, The Elder Scrolls: V is being touted as a strong contender for the coveted Game of the Year accolade, despite strong competition around the game’s launch. Set two hundred years after its predecessor, Oblivion, players will set out on a quest to defeat a dragon destined to destroy the world.

Batman: Arkham City

Batman: Arkham Asylum was touted by many as one of the best games to ever grace platforms this console generation. Rocksteady Studios have done a phenomenal job with the Batman title, and you can only imagine the anticipate for its sequel, then. Batman: Arkham City is looking to deliver players everything in its predecessor on a much larger scale; the game, for once, now features an open-world environment which literally sends shivers down my spine to even think about – it sounds and looks that good. Other notable improvements include an improved Cryptographic Sequencer, line launcher, Batarang and, of course, a sure to be stellar story line. Also, let’s not forget the game’s phenomenal critical success which has subsequently resulted in the sequel becoming one of the highest rated games of all time on Metacritic (PS3 version/Xbox 360 version).

Assassin’s Creed Revelations

Assassin’s Creed Revelation’s predecessor, Brotherhood, featured a stellar campaign. However, its standout feature was essentially the multiplayer component that delivered a unique and fresh experience for gamers; a very welcomed inclusion in the form of an online mode for the franchise indeed. The next game in the now-mainstream series, Assassin’s Creed Revelations, becomes the last appearances of characters Ezio Auditore and Altaïr. The regular open-world gameplay will make a return in addition to several gameplay improvements such as the ‘hookblade’. The multiplayer, too, has been upgraded with several online modes, characters and environments. While many may doubt the game due to it being too similar to Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, there’s still no doubting the quality every game in the franchise manages to deliver and that’ll surely be the case with Revelations.

Trine 2

Trine is one of the best PlayStation Network and PC games available. Its gameplay brings something fresh to the table combining three characters, the knight, wizard, and thief, in addition to its medieval fantasy setting paired with great environmental puzzles. The environment itself is beautiful to describe in one word, and the music is something that also stands out. Trine 2 is aiming to include everything that made its predecessor such a great game with a stellar deliverance of side-scrolling action gameplay. A new mode we’re especially looking forward to in the sequel is the simultaneous cooperative mode allowing players to take the role of wizard, thief, and knight.
