Valve’s Steam makes nearly a billion dollars in revenue in 2010, Portal 6th most selling game

Analyst firm, Forecasting and Analyzing Digital Entertainment (FADE) has divulged details regarding Valve’s digital distribution platform, Steam’s earnings in 2010.

The numbers would surprise even the most hardcore PC gamers. Yes, Steam has grossed a mind-blogging $970 million USD in 2010 out of which $213 million USD was earned in December alone, thanks mostly to its Holiday Sale, which was a huge success.

According to CIA World Factbook, that’s a higher gross income than what the gross domestic products of twenty-eight unnamed countries makes in a year combined!

That’s not all, FADE, also revealed the top money-makers for the platform and we’ve the full list for you below:

  1. Call of Duty: Black Ops (Activision) – $98.2 Million USD
  2. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Activision) – $39.4 Million USD
  3. Left 4 Dead 2 (Valve) – $36.0 Million USD
  4. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (Electronic Arts) – $25.4 Million USD
  5. Sid Meier’s Civilization V (2K Games) – $21.9 Million USD
  6. Portal (Valve) – $20.0 Million USD
  7. Fallout: New Vegas (Bethesda Softworks) – $17.0 Million USD
  8. Metro 2033 (THQ) – $13.4 Million USD
  9. Mafia II (2K Games) – $11.9 Million USD
  10. Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II: Chaos Rising (THQ) – $10.8 Million USD

As you can see Actvision’s Call of Duty series dominated the first and second spots in the money minting list and made a total of 137.6 million USD for the platform. What is extremely surprising is the presence of Valve’s Portal, which was released way back in 2007 at number 6 spot. The game made a whopping $20 million USD for the platform and is still going strong.

Portal 2 will be releasing in April and promises even more good things for the company.

And this last part is for anyone who thinks PC gaming is dying or worse, dead.

You can go suck on a salmon. Thanks.
