First Vanquish Gameplay Trailer : Some interesting facts

The first Vanquish Gameplay trailer is out and it’s rather exciting. The trailer, though a bit short, reveals much of the intense action that awaits gamers. The trailer opens up with a cheesy military speech given to fellow American soldiers before an all out assault on a Space Station captured by Russians takes place (yet again?). And so enter the protagonist Sam, a soldier gloved to the teeth with a futuristic battlesuit which has a huge arsenal of futuristic sci-fi weapons. Sam also to a large extent, possess martial arts skills to take them robots down in style (just in case Weapons don’t click?).

The trailer progresses showing the frantic paced third person combat and some melee combat, as Sam takes out possibly hundreds of armed Russian robots and foes alike. Some elements of the story are also shown in the trailer as we witness the destruction of San Francisco. Official story as from the website is as follows:-

The story of VANQUISH™ is set in the near future. Russia and the United States are vying for ownership of the world’s fast-depleting energy resources and the US has constructed a space station in order to harness energy from the sun. Russian forces capture this space station and divert its harvested solar energy into a blast wave that destroys San Francisco, aiming to force the US into a total and unconditional surrender. In response, the US tasks its armed forces with recapturing the space station before the Russians can annihilate their next target – New York.

However, the dialogues in the trailer are way too cheesy! (who says “We have to stop that from happening, so we will stop that from happening”?!) but it’s the same with every Japanese game isn’t it? The trailer goes on showing more of the backdrop/front kicking robo destructing action. The game itself seems very fast paced and there is never a dull moment as there is so much action taking place around you.  Sam seems super agile and has a host of power ups like Super Speed, Jetpacks, Rocket Boosters and Slow Mo. The Bosses (depicted at the end of trailer) are huge and taking them down will require lots of dodging, shooting weak points and execution of quick time events.

Overall, judging by the trailer, the gameplay will be a frantic mix of Gears of War’s cover system, Lost Planet 2’s point and shoot system and Bayonetta’s action system along with some additional features like cool powerups – all on steroids. Bottom line, it will be frantic, hectic and intense!

Developed by Shinji Mikami , the brain behind the Resident Evil series, we can’t wait to put our hands on this baby which is currently scheduled for a late 2010 release on Xbox 360 and PS3.
