Welcome the first official Kinect clone for PC, WAVI Xtion
Bored of using Kinect hacks on the PC? Cheer up as an official clone is going to hit the market soon.
Computer hardware giant ASUS is teaming up with  PrimeSense (yup, the same guys who developed Kinect’s camera tech) to bring a gesture-based controller-free system which you can use with your PC for carrying out various activities.
The product will be premiered in the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show this week.
The system is basically the same thing as the Kinect motion system, albeit it’s named WAVI Xtion. The device pairs PrimeSense’s 3D motion capture camera tech (the Xtion) with a transmitter/receiver (WAVI) for making the gesture-based controls possible.
ASUS feels that this is a “next generation user interface device developed by them which will extend PC usage to the living room,”. You can read the whole official press release over here.
The device is slated to be released in Q2 2011 but has no fixed release date as yet.
Interesting, we just hope we don’t get to see more Kinect clones than we can count later in the year. However, let’s not put this down without even getting a preview of it. We’ll be covering everything regarding this as it gets shown at CES later in the week.
