Yoshida on the PSP2 price: “It’s not going to be $599″

So the PSP2 is finally out of the shadows. But the one question (and the most crucial one) which lingers on everyone’s minds is still left unanswered. Price? Sony has stated that the handheld will be “affordable” and refused to furether comment on the matter.

SCE World wide sales boss Shuhei Yoshida promised that they would not repeat the infamous E3 2006 press conference, pricing the handheld at an astronomical $599.

“It’s not going to be $599,” he told Game Informer.

“From the very beginning of the project — since 2008 — pricing was one of the considerations that we had. Hopefully when we announce the price, people will see the proper value.”

Well, that hardly helps. Chances are that Sony will be selling the NGP at a loss and intends to make up with software sales. Different SKU’s is another possible outcome. Stay tuned for more updates
